Riding at High Altitude for short duration

Recommended Posts

I would like to know if it is safe to "leasurely" ride at high altitudes if the bike is jetted for sea level? We are going to take our quads up to the mountains this week (9k feet) and want to use the to take a slow scenic tour. I know that we will be running real rich, but isn't richer safer than leaner? I really don't want to have to tear them down to rejet. I suppose if we are only putting, I could just move the needle down one notch?

Any help?

If you are just putting around, you'll be in the lower throttle ranges. You can close screw in your fuel screw in 1/4 turn increments without having to "tear it down". That should help it run better and is easy to undo.

It won't be perfect that way, but it shouldn't hurt it. Just don't try rodding around, cause it's gonna blubber. Depends on how high you're going.
