Spark plug size for XLX250R RFVC engine?

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

First I would just like to say hello to everyont on TT forums. I am currently an apprentice mechanic (on cars) and am very new to bikes! I just tried to pull my spark plug thinking it would be one of the 2 sizes we use on cars (commonly known as big and sma;; ?) However did not fit.

It was almost as if the socket was the right size however the housing was too big and prevented the socket sliping over the plug. The size I tried was a 5/8, but yes no luck.

If anyone could help me out on what one would think was a simple matter it would be appreciated.

Cheers ?

Seeking the same information.

Using a 1989 Honda XR250R as a search example,

the OEM parts list shows the spark plug as an NKG DPR8Z

Searching NGK's website, the specifications on that plug list it having an 18mm hex.

I found the following info for a non-US model:

If the spark plug is 18MM, you will need to use a thin-wall long-reach 18mm socket; aka thin-wall deep 18mm socket.

Riders have been known to use a regular long-reach 18mm socket which has been ground down to fit the spark plug well.

Honda did provide thin-wall spark plug sockets on some models I owned back in the 80's, and I actually have one in my tool box.

Edit: use a 6-point socket; 12-point won't fit.
