CHANGING SPROCKETS

Recommended Posts

HEY GUYS

IS THERE ANY DIFFERENCE IN CHANGING THE FRONT SPROCKET TO A 14 VS CHANGING THE REAR TO A 48 WHEN THE STANDARD GEARING IS 15/45 ON A 02 XR400?. I'M WANTING TO SHORTEN THE GEARS FOR A LITTLE MORE TORQUE. ALSO IS IT A BAD IDEA TO ADD LINKS AND ANOTHER MASTER LINKS TO ACCOMIDATE THE BIGGER REAR SPROCKET?

THANKS.

The 14 front will let you use your stock chain length. The downside of a smaller front is slightly increased chain slider wear (the plastic on the swingarm). The only other difference is a slight change in forces exerted on the swingarm in the direction of the suspension travel when the rear sprocket size is changed significantly. This isn't going to be something anyone just bombing around on an xr400 is going to care about. Oh, and YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY IS ON.
