centrifugal oil filter

Recommended Posts

You have to take the side case off to gain access to it, then disassembly the filter. It is not supposed to be a routine maintenance item,, though on my wife’s bike, I checked it after the first oil change, as I would check /change the filter on any new motor,, and will look again once a year.

Just be sure to order and get ahead of time new gaskets for the right side cover and the oil filter rotor cover. You'll probably have to destroy the old ones getting things apart and waiting on parts is painful.

You should also purchase the three phillips head screws that you may ruin when removing them. They are VERY tight. It is possible that some form of thread locking compound is used during assembly at the factory.

Personally, I don't think it is necessary to perform this operation as regular maintenance. I would clean it during a valve job or other major engine work that would require engine removal. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with it.
