Polished Carb Venturi

Recommended Posts

I just got the Air Box side "Intake" and Engine Side "Intake" of my Carburetor Venturi polished  (Looks Good!), anyway what my question and problem is, is....when I got the carb back on the bike and started it up, it wouldn't idle, or run at low rpms. One thing I think I could be is when I was polishing the carb Venturi, I noticed that all the "Holes In the Venturi" (Like the "Hole" for the Hotstart, and Choke) were rounded or ported out in the Shape of a bowl, instead of being flat, due to the grinding, and polishing. I don't think that would do anything but you never know, another thing is that there could be some polishing compound in the carb somewhere foobaring things up. I was wondering if anyone had any experiance with this, or any advise. Thanks!

I doubt that your polish job makes much difference at lower RPM's, but you can try opening up your fuel screw in 1/4 turn increments to see if it helps.

If it doesn't make any difference, then you should probably begin disassembling it and cleaning ALL the ports with carb cleaner and compressed air.

Well I couldn't seem to jet the problem so now I'm going to tear it apart, and clean the heck out of it. Then i'll post what I find.

Well, I seemed to have fixed the initial problem with the dying. The problem was I had the flat sheet of metal on the Carb Slide upside down. So I got that fixed, and now It just needs a little jetting.

You can polish the exhaust side of the carb but your not supposed to polish the intake side. The intake track is "dimpled" to purposefully roughen up the air to help atomize the fuel so it burns more evenly in the cylinder. I'm surprised no one pointed that out to you before you did the polishing. But heh, the guy who did it probably got paid to do something that doesn't help at all. Sorry if you got taken.

Hahahah...many a CRF owner has done that! What is funny, is that it LOOKS like it the correct orientation when it is on wrong!

I am guilty of it too....and when I read your post I waas thinking EXACTLY that, and then I read down and saw you figured it out heheh.
