2004 KTM 450 SX

Recommended Posts

I just bought (yesterday) an '04 KTM 450 SX. The suspension has been set up for a 195 lb. B class rider. Suspension work was done by Pro Circuit. I weigh about the same and ride B class. Through choppy sections the front end seems to dance and on flat corners the back end seems to slide alot under acceleration. The bike doesn't jump well either, tending to go front end low.

I'd like some recommendations on how to set the sag or adjust clickers to remedy some of this. I'm used to Japanese bikes and don't know if I should be doing something different with the Katoom.

Thanks

I don't think Pro Circuit is well known for their WP expertise. I think your best option would be to have it re-done by a WP specialist. I had my 04 525SX done by Dick's Racing and I have none of the problems you are experiencing. Otherwise, if this isn't an option, I'd call Pro Circuit and ask for their baseline settings. Good luck.

If your rear is kicking up off jump faces try more rear rebound, this is also the case if in large or sandy woops the bike is kicking you up off the pegs.

This PDS shock has a top out spring in it. While on the stand push down on the rear of the swingarm while your are taking your first measurement. You will notice that it will move 5-10mm's. Then once back on the ground take the free and rider sag numbers. Should be 25-35 free sag with 95-105 rider sag.

Sounds like the rear may be sitting to low or the frt. to high by your explanation of problems.

Hey sup I c that you are from MN too. Sweet. Well anyways I know that the KTM frames twist alot, (watch grant go thourgh some supercross whoops once) you will see waht I mean. I also heard that KTM's are hard to get set up. If I was you I would get you suspension service done by somebody that is at the races every year, that way you can talk to them right there at the races. ITs the only to go as far as im concerned, I use Pro_Action. They are at a race in MN someplace every weekednd and are very easy to get along with
