520 clutch cover leak

Recommended Posts

I own a 2002 520 exc that continuously leaks oil from the clutch cover. I've replaced the gasket & torqued all bolts to spec.twice. The last time I laid the cover on a piece of glass and found it warped,so I filed it true again but I still have a leak.Has anyone seen this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can do this and make it perfectly true you might be the only person in the world that can.

Pick up a piece of 3/8" glass from your local glass vendor.

Using sheets of wet/dry sandpaper taped to the glass you can sand the cover flat. Take some valve grinding compound and smear it over the glass for your final finishing.

Usually this procedure will result in a perfectly flat surface. I've done this for years on all kinds of parts rather than taking them to a machine shop.

Before you install the cover take a machinist rule and make sure that the cases aren't warped for some reason.
