clear background to protect frame?

Recommended Posts

I just repainted my frame where my legs rubbed off the paint and it looks new again. I was now thinking about putting some clear background tape over it to keep it from rubbing back off after the next ride. Anyone else do this? Does it look good or is that lame?

Well, it doesn't look like the "bare" painted frame, but it doesn't look cheesey, either. It is tricky to do in a way that wraps the film far enough around to keep the corners and edges of the film from peeling up. The tube sections above the swing arm pivot are easy enough, but the stamped section at the pivot is the hard part. Maybe use a frame protector for that and film the tubes above it.

I wear a knee brace, and the hard spot on the inside of my knee caused by the brace is tough on my tank graphics. So I use the 20 mil clear 3m film from Factory Effex (One and Yamaha both have the same thing) to overlay the sides of the tank. If you don't leave bubbles, you can't tell it's there.
