I didn't go! I woke up at 6am to put my chain on and open & fix my son's xr engine because it was smoking.

I put my sprockets on and when I got to the chain....it wouldn't fit thru the slider....so I took the slider off and removed some of the material with a dremel. Once the chain cleared the slider, I put it back on and tried to put the chain on....but it wouldn't fit...

When I ordered the chain I said "I need a chain for 2001 yz426" The dealer said "no problem, I'll order you the exact size, so you dont have to cut it"....I assumed he knew the exact size. I found out he didn't when I tried to put the master link on a 112 link chain....my bike uses a 114 link chain! I was screwed until they opened at 10am. No biggie, I thought I'll just swing by the dealer on the way to NJORVP and pick up the right chain.

On to my son's bike. It was smoking either because the oil was getting thru the head gasket or the something was up with the oil scraper rings. I pulled the engine off and opened the top end to have a look. It kinda looked like some oil was getting by the gasket...so I thought maybe one of the orings that mate to the oil passages maybe was out of place and got squished when I originally put it together. So I got everything into place and put it back together...this took about an hour from start to finish. Ok engine is back on the bike, so I start it up and puff....still smoking pretty bad.

At this point it was about 8am...so I took a little break to have some breakfast.

After breakfast I pulled the xr engine off the bike and opened it up again. This time I pulled the cylinder to have a look at the piston. The oil scraper rings were jammed into the piston groove...they were really tight when I installed them but now they were jammed....OK, I took the rings off and mic'd everything and came to the conclusion that either the piston groove was not in spec or the rings weren't in spec. So, I put the stock cylinder and piston back in so we could at least ride....and deal with the 88cc piston later. So as im tightening one of the cam sprocket bolts to 8ft/lbs the friggen bolt head twists off! &%$#@!!! So I had to loosen the rockers and slide the cam out, put it in the drill press and drill out the bolt shaft...then use an extracter bit to spin it out. Now, its about 10 so I call the dealer about my chain. "yea we have what you need...come on up" said the parts guy. So now I figure, "i can get to the dealer by 12 if I put this xr back together and put the chain on at njorvp. So as Im putting the xr back together, my wife hops in the truck and takes my daughter to church for adoration (she was covering for her parents - someone has to be at church to guard the solid gold Eucharist and her parents were on vacation so my wife was covering for them....she was scheduled from 11-12)....Yea...she took the truck....the same truck that I was going to put the bikes in!....So of course, the woman who was scheduled to relieve her from adoration is 30 min late...some my wife gets home around 1. I put the bikes in the truck and head to the dealer and find out that they only have a 120 link chain that has to be cut.....so I drive home to cut the chain...about 2:30 now....get the chain on and notice that my sons bike is now leaking oil at the cylinder gasket......I didnt put a fresh one on when I re-swapped the cylinders earlier so it got squashed and was leaking.....at this point, I didn't feel like riding!...so I put the bikes away and cracked a beer and went out into the yard and played with my kids!....I would have liked to have gone that day....but it just wasn't meant to be.

Mike

Geez, that gave me a stress headache just reading that! I hate when things like that happen. Oh well, sometimes I wonder if things like that happen "for a reason". You may have been out a lot longer than one ride.

Dirt,

Awesome write up. I felt like I was back at the park again. But it's Tuesday now (tear). You and the Doctor took awesome pics. Hopefully Doc will get his bike dirty next time. I think it would look better with a little orange roost thrown on there for good measure . Next time I hope I can keep Phil within a lap of me, although I think I was the only one to witness both of his wrecks. St3ve's mom definitely gets the award. That was nice of her to do and I always have a blast riding with st3ve so it worked out good. Tim, it was nice to meet you in person (finally ). Get those injuries healed up so next time we can get on the track and mix it up. I definitely give XtacyOD the best jump award in that pic though. You know the landing was rough on that bike .

Thanks again to everyone for making it an awesome day. I'm still thinking about how much fun I had. You guys pick the weekend and I'm there for the next one. We still have some time before we have to bust out the sleds. Although, if we wait, we won't have to worry about massive swarms of bees.

Awesome write up Greg.

Those damn bees were pissing me off. Although my little brother thought it was fun to play with them.

I had a blast riding with everyone. KtmSteve I will be training hard for the next TT ride. Yeah Steve i think you were the only one to see my crashes. The one i just went into the coner way to fast, and then grabed a handfull of break. I wont do that again, i hate cleaning sand from my eyes.

We have to do it again, it was to much fun.

Can you go to Jackfrost on Saturday? 10/16

i have work dude..id love to go all over and piss money away but at the tender age of 16, NJ does not trust me with the priviledge to drive. Once I'm a drivin' ill be riding alot more at more tri-state area places (rausch, blue diamond, mt.pleasant, etc)

Heya Steve,

same ole' same ole' over there. NJ would be sweet. Half of the gang I ride with is from PA or close to it, so maybe one of these days we could venture that way to cause some trouble  (or talk about lower back pain & viagra while you youngsters tear it up :cry: )

If you ever load up with some of your crew to head down to Budds Creek for a race, shoot me a PM. You guys would be welcome to stage with our crew.
