James, Help on an 04 CRF450

Recommended Posts

I am at 4500FT, at about 40-60 degrees with your blue needle at #3 clip postition (Counting from top down), and 175 MJ. The problem i'm having is, well what you could call a hesitation at idle like a sputter or bog without twisting the throttle with it sometimes dying. After idle it runs great.

P.S

I really like your kit, I had the same idea about the different tapper too, and then I saw your kit, good idea I think. Anyway Thanks for your help!

Try switching over to the red marked needle in the 5th from top clip position. Adjust the fuel screw for best idle, ~1 1/4 turns out.

I'll give that a try, Thanks!

I did however have another question regaurding your instructions. Ok, in the instructions it says from 3000ft - 6000ft use the 175 MJ, and the Red #4, with that said then if I was going to run the richer needle (Blue) to richen the lower end, would I have to use the 180 MJ, or stick with the 175 MJ? Just wondering if you could clear that up for me, because I know the needle jet and the main jet affect each other. Thanks Again!

The needle clip position makes very little change at full throttle, but a significant change near 1/4 throttle. The result is that the main jet is not going to need to be adjusted to offset the needle clip at anything less than about 3 clip positions.

Ok, clip position doesn't make a dramatic differance, but what about the differance between your two Jet Needles (Blue and Red)? I figure I would only have to change between the 175 - 178 MJ for the most extreme condition changes (Cold to Hot or Hot to Cold) since I'm always riding at about the same altitude (4500ft) what do you think?

The needle difference at full throttle is only slight. I would not expect the full throttle jetting to be noticeably changed by switching red/blue within 2 clip positions.
