Learning how to do it your self

Recommended Posts

I want to learn how to re-valve forks but i need to know where to start. How did all you "experts" learn what you know now?

It's all trial and error. But I can recommend a video from race tech it's pretty good as far as describing how to take apart a fork or a shock. The valving stack is what you have to experiment with adding shims or taking shims on either the low speed comp or hi speed comp, rebound etc. Or better yet volunteer at a bike shop where they do suspension work and learn.

PS. Suspension work is a very clean business, I mean clean!! One spec of dirt and your suspension is affected, so you need a clean working area.

Yam259 said it best. You will have to dedicate many years of trial & error to come up with your own theory on how you want to build valve stacks. With all the different thickness & diameters there are to work from you probably have several million combo's to experiment with
