how to improve TTR90 front brakes

Recommended Posts

I know they're supposed to be weak on a dirtbike, but I'm more into supermoto. Any cost-effective way to increase the stopping power on a TTR90? I'm not gonna spend $500 on a disc-brake conversion if that's what you wanna recommend. 😢

Actually now that I think about it, I was kind of toying with the idea of lacing up a 12" front wheel, so maybe I could get a hub with a beefier brake? Then I'd probably have to make the right spacers and I wouldn't know the first thing how to do that.

Within the limits of the stock drum brakes and standard compound pads, about the only thing you could do is to increase the lever ratio as it pulls the cable, so you can grab 'more brake'...

Good luck...

You can get a small improvment by centering the panel that holds the shoes.

To do this; loosen the axle nut, then squeeze the brake lever. While holding the brakes on tighten the axle nut. Doing this will make both shoes engage the drum at the same time. It will also allow you to take a little bit more play out of the brake cable without the brakes dragging.
