BD Led Tail light installation question...

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone...

I just got my BD Led Tail Light in the mail yesterday...

I have a question...

I have a 400S, you know those little tabs on the rear fender...

Did you guys cut those off?

Also where did you put the bolts and the fender...

did you put the fender over top of the rear frame or under the rear frame.

Thanks

Panaman

I still have my bag on the fender so used those two and then I put one from the kit at the end of the fender.

I cut mine short, and put it behind the frame. It is still very sturdy! I will take a few pics and post them if you would like.

I'm waiting on an answer from BD, but maybe I can get a quicker answer here...

Is this thing setup/wired for tail/brake lights, or tail only?

The link wont work. The proper way to link to BD parts is just post the BD part #.

600709

Punch that in the BD search.

As for the way to mount it. I did a little trimmin and went over subframe.

Worked for me...but still had to click on the taillight link on the left...oh well.

That light looks great!!!

Anybody mounted that on an off-road model??? With pics?

Is it nice and bright and noticeable in the day when you hit the brake vs. when just the taillight is on?

I had to cut the heck out of it..

actually there are 4 screws holding it on....

But only one going through the fender...

I have one screw under the fender in the middle where the tool bag used to go...

Then I have two screws going into the rear of the sub frame under the fender..

Then i have 1 Screw in the very back in the middle that goes through the fender and through the Tail light plastic.

(this one was just to get a nice tight fit from the fender to the tail light, and also for some rear fender support)

It was a [@#$%&*!]....

I just didn't want to have 4 screws sticking out of my fender..

I cut the hell out of the BD tail light assembly...

I actually think i cut off a little too much.. but its sturdy...

I might do one more cut on it...

not sure yet.

I installed mine in about 45 minutes with use of a straight edge razor (box cutter) and some butt-end connectors. The plastic had to be cut down quite a bit, but it is very Sturdy. I will take pictures tonight from top and bottom so you can see how I mounted mine. Just take your time and do it right, and you will be happy.

Its so bright my photos cant even do it justice.

Like 30 ft away it was making my bro glow red when I pressed the brake light.

Its also such a bright red that the whole license plate glows red even though there are 3 white plate illum LEDs.

There is another light similar to this one you guys are talking about. It is made by acerbis and costs around 30 bucks. Easy install and has only three screws, two that acutally show. It mounts between the subframe and the fender, lodging it comfortably in there. Based on the reaction of the light from NatetheGreat, this light may not be as bright, but is quite bright. I have ridden with it and have no trouble from the law.

This is the only host I have for pic rights now, so if you want to see the light I have been using, click this link:
