About swapping out my 01 WR tank.

Recommended Posts

A few questions...

Has anyone tried the Clark solution suggested on THUMPERFAQ.com?

If so is it different from the newer OEM tanks off the WR or is it identical?

I rode my buddies 03 WR450F and I loved the way his tank seat combo felt is the Clark going to feel like this?

Will the Clark make my seat height higher?

Any feedback is appreciated and if anyone has a tank and seat combo that will fit my 01 WR250f I would be interested.

Thanks

TonyC

I went with a stock YZ tank and seat. It makes a big difference in getting up on the tank. I have used clarke big tanks on 2 stroke YZ's and the fit really well. The seat height will be about the same. The '03 - '05 WR tanks will not fit the '01 - '02 bikes. A '98 to '02 YZ400F,426F 0r '01 to '02YZ250F will fit.

yes, i have the clarke 2.3gal tank on my '01 WRF.

the '01 and '02 tanks are different from the '03 and newer bikes, and that's the case for both the YZF and WRF.

no change in seat height. with the YZF seat and tank you will be able to get more forward when turning.

Any feedback is appreciated

this is what an '01 WRF looks like with a clarke YZF tank and an SDG YZF style seat:

basically the seat & tank profile is exactly the same as an '01 or '02 YZF. btw, your "boys" will thank you when you get a bit out of shape on the trails -- the gas cap neck on the YZF style tank is lower than the WRF style and you won't slam your nuts into the gas cap as often.

as for range with the 2.3gal size, on the trails at a moderately aggressive pace you will get at least 60 and at most 75 miles out of one tank.

I have an Acerbis oversize tank from my 01 WR for sale. It made a big difference in me for feel. I did use the fuel if I went on very long rides 120-140 Km's but most of the time only used half tank. This kept the weight lower and made the bike handle better than if it was full.

If you are interested send me a pm.

the 3.4gal acerbis tank that kantoniak speaks of looks like this:

http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/gastank/

it's the same type that Yamaha resells under the GYTR label.

his may be blue but it's the same tank. very high quality, good access to the choke and hotstart, highly recommended if you need the range. you use this tank in conjunction with the YZF-style seat, giving you the double benefit of the YZF's seating position and the WRF's fuel range.

Thanks for the replies, fuel capacity is not an issue where I am from, there is always a gas station close but the ACERBIC tank sounds interesting as long as I can get more forward on my bike. The original WR tank gets in the way in corners not allowing me to pressure the front wheel aggressively and I always feel like the front wheel is slipping out from under me.

I always feel like the front wheel is slipping out from under me.

hopefully you have also gotten rid of that POS D739 front, aka the "faceplant specialist".

Wrooster is right about the capacity, fit and finish. I got this over the Clark as the Clark made the hotstart difficult to access on my friends 01 bike. I also ran an SDG seat.

The tank is white.

I am running a Pirrelli MT21, I believe but I definitely need a new tire. Its more than the tire though, there is nothing like having all your weight forward on the bike, just cant get there with the OEM tank.

I looked at what Kent had to offer and what Clark had to offer. Clark had the original YZ tank design so I went with that and a new seat. 269.00...

thanks for all your help.
