Posted this in OT but no bites

Looking to get the humidity down and clean the air in a room.

Been looking around and have seen prices ranging from a couple hundred bucks to 1500 clams.

Any advice???

I have a Honeywell Enviorcare Hepa filter I got @ Sams Club for $150.

It has an outer filter that collects most of the dust, they need to be replaced every 2 or 3 months.

I replace the internal hepa once a year or longer. The internal filters are about $50. I run it 24hrs a day

and have had it 5 years. Im amazed its still working so well.

Here is a link to the one I have.

Hey Kawidual,

I assume there is a good reason you bought this thing -- was it for allergies. If so did it help as per the preamble in the write-up on the page you posted?

Preamble

I've had allergies all of my life. After I had my son though, things seemed to get worse for me. I take 10mg of Claritin every single day, no matter what the season. I stopped mowing the grass and dust just sends me into a tailspin.

My Dr. gave me an entire list of recommendations that were supposed to help me with dealing with my allergies. One of those recommendations was to invest in a HEPA air machine for my bedroom. Supposedly, it would keep the air in my bedroom cleaner and it would be easier for me to sleep.

I looked around places like Sears, JCPenney's, and Loews. Nothing really grabbed me. Then while at Kohl's I came across a line of Honeywell HEPA air systems that looked like they might do the job for me.

Main reason is I rented a room from a homeowner who smoked 5 years ago.

We used to have a lot of parties also & the smoke kills me. This

thing worked great for that, changes the air in the room nicely.

Now I just keep running it at my place since it helps

keep the dust down since I have 2 big dogs. I get some pollen

alergies in the summer too and it helps with that.

Before I had it I would wake up all congested, etc, now nothing.

You can move it around easily if you want to.

Her write up is pretty good, it does filter fine particals. I just

found that when I was trying to grab a link for you. Mine has 3 speeds

not 2 so I might have an older or better version, mine measures 16".

Like she says, its not whisper quite, but Ive gotten used to it and its

not too loud to be an annoyance or sleep with it on.
