Hour meter install

Has anyone put an hour meter on an 05'? I put one on the two wires (orange and black) that feed the coil on top of the sparkplug cap, but when the meter gets close to metal (frame) is stops running. How do you get into that sealed spark plug cap?

The coil is incorperated in the cap. Wrap your hour meter wire around the top of the spark plug cap three times just above the flanged part & secure it with a zip-tie. I believe there is a photos in the yz250f posts if you need it.
