XR400 spark plug to run with 440 high compression kit?

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get a new plug for a 1999, XR400 that I just bought. The guy I bought it from says it has a XRs Only 440 high compression kit in it. The spark plug in it right now is a R2525-10 (just says R on one side and 10 on the other - NGK). I asked the local motorcycle shop and they said a stock plug would work for the 440 kit. But, I'm worried because the plug thats in it now - R2525 - is much shorter than the stock plug (like 3+ mm longer) and I'm afraid it will hit the piston dome. Any techs know what to do? Should I get the same plug (just searched and found it for 35 bucks!) or use a stock?

Thank you!!! times a billion!, Joe

Just get the standerd Plug to fit a XR400, and that shoud be fine.

I dont know if ur supposed to do this or not but, I use an iridium plug from my dads xr600 and it makes the bike a heck of alot eaiser to start. It doesnt hit the piston and has ran fine for with my 416 kit and the 440 kit for about a year.

I have a 440 kit in my "ride", but with the 11:1 compression piston, and I run the DPR9Z or the DPR8Z with Super unleaded Pump Gas. No problems so far!
