Splitting cases question...

My kawasaki manual is not very clear on this, if I ONLY need to remove the left side engine case, do I still need to yank the clutch basket and allof that nonsense, or can I just get away with yanking the stator stuff and the countershaft sprocket and shifter and the case bolts and then split the case normally with the case splitting tool? Again, I ONLY need to remove the left case. This manual sucks.
