jetting for altitude?

Recommended Posts

Have a chance of a lifetime to go ride in Monterrey Mexico, about three hours south of my home. Lots of trails in the mountains, seen pictures and the place is awesome. I'm at sea level and Monterrey is at least 2000 above sea and we will be riding up to 5000 feet above. My bike (04 450sx) has the jd kit at the recommended settings (blue needle) if I remember correctly. How much do I need to change the jetting and needle to make it work good for this higher altitude? My recluse clutch is broke now so I may have to take the yz250f instead if the parts dont show up on time. ? The yz also has the jd kit.

Thanks all

Before I went to bed last night I remembered the kit has the different settings for altitude.

The breakdown is;

Blue needle to 4000 ft and red needle from 3000 to 6000 ft.

I'm riding from about 1500 to 50000 or maybe 5500 ?

My guess is one step smaller main with the needle in same position I'm using now.

James what would you recommend?

Anyone?

Thanks

Set the needle 1 clip position leaner (higher clip position) and lower the main jet 2 steps.

Bring the red marked needle to lean the 1/8-1/4 throttle range if needed, using the same clip position as the blue needle.
