First oil change?

How long do you guys recommend befor I change the oil and filter on my brand new dr650? I am picking the bike up tom. Thanx, Ed

I'd change it after the first ride... for me that was about 40 miles, then changed it again at 100, plan to change again at 200, and then every 150 miles after that.

Even with only 40 miles on it, my oil was nasty lookin. Looked more like hersheys syrup than oil and had all kinds of metal shavings in it. You can't really change the oil too often, especially the first couple times.

Yeah, right after your break-in ride I'd change it and then again after a couple of hundred miles. That big 650 doesn't spin real fast..... If you are doing a combo of on and off road riding, I'd say that every 500 - 1,000 miles is a realistic interval. Just don't go by the manual.... take whatever it says and divide by 3. ?

I,d use regular engine oil for break in, then after break in switch to a semi synthetic 4 stroke oil, (I use BelRay, 4 stroke oil). I've had good luck useing BelRay fluids, (Since 1968, thats A LONG TIME!!. Take care of your eqiupment,(bike), and It'll take care of you!!. ?
