El Mirage Dry Lake after the rain

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how long it usually takes El Mirage Dry Lake to dry up after a rain strom? My son and I want to go riding there on Sunday but you can't go on the lake bed if it is wet.

Its probably gonna be flooded till springtime unless there is a long dry spell.

You can still ride all the trails around the lakebed.

I have seen, at times, where they just close off the flooded portion and you can ride the rest. Either way it should be epic this weekend.

If we don't get any more rain, the entire lake will probably be closed until next weekend. The they will just close off the muddy sections. the rangers are real hardasses about it. Last year, I was pushing my broken RM465 back to the truck (parked off the lake at the east end) along the edge of the lake. The area I was traversing was dry, and I wasn't leaving any tracks. the rangers came up in their Jeep Cherokee and read me the riot act!

Caution.

They are doing work on the main entrance .

You have to drive around to the back and will need to cross a corner of the lake bed to get in.

Don't get stuck.

Thanks for the tips. I'll be heading out this Sunday to ride up in the hills. I'll let you know if the the lake is a lake, muddy or dry.
