Clunky Gear Box

Recommended Posts

I've got a 01 DRZ-250. The engine runs fine. Never had a problem even when it's cold but then again I live in South Florida. Any whenever I shift into first I hear a nice audible "clunk" and as I let the clutch out to start moving it engages rather harshly. It doesn't matter if I try to feather the clutch either. When it grabs it grabs like a ho to her money. So is my gear box fubared?

Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I also have an '01 model. Sometimes I notice mine doing something similiar when changing gears, but nothing too harsh. It may be possible that your shifter fork may be bent a little. I doubt it though. Have you noticed any metal fragments when changing oil?

Sounds like a clutch problem, not a gearbox issue. If it is mostly felt when you are starting to move, and is less noticable once you are moving and shift gears, it is probably the clutch.
