factory exhaust valve shim sizes are different (photos)

Recommended Posts

I was checking my valves and shims and noticed that my right exhaust shim is 235 and my left exahust is 240. These are the shims that came with the bike from the factory. In the photo you can see the 235 marked on the right shim. Has anyone else had different size shims for the exhaust pair or intake pair?

My intake valves were the same size 192. These little pieces of metal are smaller than and asprin and cost about $10 each (with shipping).

If you plan on keeping the bike for awhile get the hotcams shim kit. It includes shims in all the varying increments. It is around $59 and i believe well worth it on the hondas. 😢

I'll be ordering mine through TT(you have to call them)

Yep. The little woman's X came with a 252 and a 248.

Yes, it's normal. they are mass produced heads and valves and are shimmed to spec before they hit the assembly line.

One of my Yamahas can speced at zero on one valve...which means someones was asleep during assembly...or something went wrong when the bike was started at the end of the assembly line.
