New 96 XR250 rider, Any Tips?

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 96 xr250 for 1925. It has an xr's only exhaust and jetting, uni filter, pegs, renthals, shifter, s12 tires, brake pads, chain, sprockets, etc. I mostly ride trails and small jumps. I weigh 190 and the forks already have stiffer springs. All my friends ride quads and i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on jumping, hillclimbing; as well as, maintenance.

There are many many posts about all the things you have asked about. check the off road forum and mx forum for as many thoughts on the subject as you would ever need.

good luck.

Get your weight as far forward as you can on turns. This gives you better traction and keeps the front end from sliding out.

I wish I had this tip before my first ride. My elbow ended up paying the price.

Clean your airfilter every 2 rides, change your oil every 200~300 miles, change your oil filter every other oil change and RIDE!!!!

Buy a HONDA service manual. They are the best!

Put in quality oil.

Adjust the valves as required.

Check out the Technique forum for riding tips.

Check out the Regions forums for people to ride with.

My XR400 FAQ has some tips that apply to the XR250R too.

Enjoy your bike!
