What is this Air box Mod I have been hearing about on here and how do you do it?

It's a pretty easy mod. Looking into the airbox, note where the rear fender meets the airbox. You'll notice a vertical shoulder or squared off edge of the airbox at that junction. It sticks up about 1/2 of an inch or so as it wraps around the fender. That lip restricts the free flowing of air from the rear air inlets in the sideplates not to mention making filter replacement tougher. That lip needs to be cut off the airbox. It's best to remove the box first and use a die grinder with a cutting wheel on it. You could use a hacksaw blade if you had to. You end the cut on each side right around where the molded in nuts for the rear fender are located. When your done, duct tape the now smooth junction of the rear fender & airbox to keep out any water or dirt. Also round file the backfire screen from the air filter cage. You just need to bend the tabs out around the perimeter of the sreen and push it out. You can get a treated Twin Air back fire proof filter if a filter fire scenario worries you, but the odds of that ever happening with the stock filter are slim and none.
