In thumbing through a stack of Dirt Bike Magazines I came across an article from the early nineties about the former MX great John Desoto. A long time politician in his native Hawaii, at the time Desoto has tunrned his biking interests to mostly trail riding. However, he was still doing an occasional race on of all things an XR250. Desoto raced both young and old, and despite a more "docile" machine and at best an impromptu training schedule, Desoto beat many of them. Classic case of a rider maximizing what he had. Why an XR250? Desoto stated that anything faster would get him hurt and that he didnt like, or didnt have time to wrench anymore. A testimony if ever I heard one.
