Camping near Vegas

Recommended Posts

You might try the Jean Dry Lake Bed. As you come up I-15 from LA, you'd exit at Jean (second group of casinos you see - the first group is Primm). Turn right and then left on Las Vegas Blvd. Follow that north about 3 miles; turn right onto the first road after you cross under the RR tracks. Take the dirt road about 3 miles east - there is plenty of space and lots of riding opportunities (SCORE / BITD off road track, trails, flats, single track, gravel roads, etc).

You'd be camped about 10 miles south of the south end of the strip (where most of the action is).

Dude!! the best place to camp in vegas for new years is circus circus! They have a full hookup rv park right on the strip!!

Jimbo

That's a good place for people who want to stay in town, but he said -"I'm looking for a good place to desert camp near Vegas"- so the lake bed is probably what he is looking for. I live in the south end of town close to exit 27, so I have been riding down in the area between Vegas and Jean. Hopefully, I'll see some fellow TT'rs out there.

I was raise in the desert so I know how cold it gets at night thats why I got the Travel trailer.

Anyways it look like I'll be camping at Jean dry lake. I've never been there so don't have any clue on what part of the lale is best etc....

If anyone want to come and ride with me on either 12-31 or 1/1/05 that would be nice

let me know and we'll figure out a way to hook up.

Cool - I may make it out during that time.

There is plenty of room out there - no right or wrong as far as where to camp. There is a spot about 3/4 of a mile northeast of the road you'll come in on that has a small "puddle" of standing water surrounded by some small (10') hills (you'll pass an even smaller puddle / hill on your way onto the lake bed). I see lots of folks huddled around that area. The road you come in on will have some gravel trucks on it occasionally, but I doubt that they'll bother you.

TrailAddict - The Vegas rains must have moved you to higher ground! I was out at the Jean "dry" (ha!) lake bed today only to find that it is actually a lake and nobody was camped there. Hope you found a good spot.....

Other than the snot slippery mud around the edges of the "lake", the riding at Jean was beautiful today. Great traction; mud if you wanted it and mid 50's with mild breezes. We spent this morning out there and had a blast.
