Using my 1 1/8 clamps from my CRF on a modified KTM upper triple?

I have a set of 1 1/8 bar clamps that the previous owner of my 450 used on the stock upper triple clamp before he got the new triple clamps that are on my bike right now. I have a 98 KTM 250 dirt track bike that needs a new set of handlebars. I love my ProTapers on my CRF and want to put them on the KTM too, but the KTM has the lower portion of the bar clamp molded into the triple. I was wondering to save me from buying the universal bar clamp kit, if I could use the 1 1/8 clamps from the stock CRF triple on the KTM if I milled the clamp mounts off and drilled holes for the bar clamps to go through. I hope that wasn't too confusing.
