Thumpy79 Posted December 16, 2004 As I posted a month and a half ago I recently dislocated and broke my left wrist from getting kicked sideways on a couple doubles. I had emergency surgery on 11/1/04 and have had two follow-up visits with the surgeion that performed the surgery. The other day I received a statement from my insurance company saying that they are not covering the follow-up visit because I didn't get pre-approval from my primary physician. Does anyone have experience with this? I'm not sure they realize that I'm seeing the guy that performed the surgery, and it doesn't make since to me that I would see a different specialist for follow-up care 😢 On a better note, I will finally get my cast off on 1/11/05 and can begin rehab and I'm getting pretty good at playing mxunleashed with my index finger 😢 Mike
HalfNutz Posted December 17, 2004 #1 - It should be covered. Just call your insurance and explain it to them. #2 - Post surgical care is almost always free, well, not free but covered under the cost of the surgery.
642MX Posted December 17, 2004 I broke my wrist on 10/3/04. I had surgery two days later and they installed a plate and three screws. Anyways my insurance company is Anthem they pay 80% and I pay 20%. My post operation visits were free, but the therapy was not. I would call your insurance company and tell them whats going on, but it seems no insurance company wants to pay out anymore.
Fallsoffalot Posted December 17, 2004 Here in the UK, bashing the National Health Service is a popular pastime. However reading your post about medical insurance made me think how lucky we are to have a free service. I hope your insurers pay up, and I'm glad your cast is coming off soon too. Take it easy for the first couple of rides. 😢
Thumpy79 Posted December 17, 2004 Thanks for the reply's, I'm going to give them a call today. My wife reminded me that my doctor did approve the surgeon prior to surgery. I think the insurance company is just trying to get away without paying for the follow-up x-rays. She says they always do it where she works and sometimes the doctors have to send them x-rays to prove the care is required.
