Quick Jetting Question

Recommended Posts

Now with the cold weather here, I can't remember if the cold weather makes the bike leaner or richer. I am going riding at 4000' on Sunday, in the summer it runs ok but up near the top it starts to run too rich. I can't remember which way to go, if the cold air makes it lean then I should be ok and can run, if it makes it richer then I will need to rejet. 😢

Cold air is more dense - more O2. The mixture becomes leaner. You richen the jetting to compensate. At higher elevations the air is thinner - less O2. You lean the mixture to compensate. So cold air at hi elevation will require less leaning of the mixture relative to a hot day at the same elevation. Clear as mud now? If you were OK in the summer you will have less of a probem in the winter.
