bike won't keep its fuel....Help!

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 yz250f that is currently in winter storage. Today I decided to try and start the bike up for the first time this month. I proceeded to fill the tank, but when I turned the fuel petcock to the on position, the fuel just ran out the overflow lines, and didn't even enter the carb. Since the bike is kept in the garage, maybe something in the carb is frozen? If anyone has any idea as to what the problem is I would really appreciate it. Thanks

Stuck float would be the correct answer. If it has set a few months it may be stuck from varnish which developes when the gas evaporates. Either way I would let it sit until you are ready to use it, then remove the carb and have the shop or whoever soak the pilot jet in lacuer thinner, clean the needle & seat, float hinge, whatever is making the float stick.

Sometimes you can tap the float bowl with a screwdriver handle in a pinch. Still need to clean it out.
