matthew c davis Posted December 19, 2004 my 1997 xr400r is smoking pretty bad. the jetting has always been a little lean so it's not that. about a year ago i had two new intake valves installed as well as having the cylinder bored 1mm over with a new piston and rings of course... i don't know if its something with the cylinder head or what. what would you suggest would be a good place to have this looked at...has anyone had experience with XR's only? has anyone done an overhaul on their engine recently? thanks for your help
Trailryder42 Posted December 19, 2004 So you've run it a year being too lean and you don't think that could have made a major contribution to the problem?
matthew c davis Posted December 19, 2004 no, the bike was not run lean...just saying that the smoking must be from oil not from being to rich at carb anyway, thanks guys, i'll call up some shops
