Dunlop D606 on Xr650r

Recommended Posts

Thouk, I actually have the 120/90x18 on one of my bikes and not the 130 you listed. Sorry for the confusion. I can't see any reason why the 130 wouldn't fit. This was one of the tougher tires I've had to mount. I've only got a little over 200 miles on mine, but its wearing well. The other DOT tire I've been considering when this is gone is the Michelin Baja. I also run a D606 on the front and while it works, it does get a bit sketchy at times and I'd like to find something that sticks better for the front.

I bought my set of D606s at one of the local shops. It was 100 bucks for both. Then I payed them to put them on it was 15 buck a tire (that is to take it off the bike put on the new tire and then put it all back together) The back is great but I do not like the front in the soft stuff. It might just be me but the rear also seams to be wearing pretty fast. I hope that it is just me but let me know what you find out.

I've done the Dennis Kirk thing twice now and was bit twice by them (bad luck I guess). They told me the tires were in stock and would ship immediately. Three weeks later and still no tires when I badly needed them. I call them up and they tell me the tires are backordered and my order won't be filled for 60+ days ?

I know plenty of other people that have had good luck dealing with them and they were very nice to me on the phone, but it's an experience that's hard for me to forget, especially since it happend twice on two different occasions.

Are you doing a lot of pavement riding? On the dirt I could not wear the 606 out. I found the rear did not perform well in sand in fact so bad that was why I finally got rid of it. On forest trails rocks and such it did just fine. I now run trials tires and they outperform the 606 in everything including wear.

OMT, what brand / model / size of trials tires are you running? The pictires of your bike (mainly the tires) caught my attention last week at the following link and I've been meaning to ask you about those tires. You sure have some fantastic places to ride!

the d606 does not come in a size 130-18 the 130 is a 17 in tire.

qadsan, i would not deal with dennis kirk either if I got sevice like that. I have not had much of a problem with them but i am leary now that you say that....

I wouldn't 'not' buy there becaus of my experiences which are extremely limited considering the thousands of customers they deal with monthly. My friends have had good luck there and the people at Dennis Kirk have always treat me nicely. I'm chalking it up to bad luck, but now I try to find my best deals and give the TT store a chance to beat them.

As you can see they are rather pricey but the one on the rear of my XR650 has over 1500 miles on it, the front is brand new. I would of bought 3 regular dirt tires in that many miles.
