Hard to kick over

Recommended Posts

I need some help. I have an '04 CRF450R and recently checked the valves and had to put in new shims for the intake. The exhaust valves were out by just one shim size.

Since I did this work, the bike is hard to kick over. I have to stand up on the kickstarter to get it started, but once it starts moving, it goes the rest of the way easy and then it starts.

It seems to run well too.

Anybody have any ideas why this is happening?

You very likely didn't set the auto decompression to the correct clearance. Reread the manual on how to do that.

Basically, you need to add 0.35mm to whatever your "new" ex valve clearance is, then put a feeler guage of that size in between the decompresser and the seat for where that pushs on the ex valve
