98 WR 400 Jetting help for 5000' and higher.

Recommended Posts

I have a 98 WR 400 with the following jets and setting.

Main Jet -- 168, Starter Jet -- 82, Pilot Jet -- 45.

Main Jet Needle clip -- 3 up from bottom.

Pilot Jet Air Screw -- 1 5/8 turns from seat.

Pilot Air Jet -- 75, Maint Air Jet -- 200.

So what would be good jet and clip numbers for Colorado riding? Thanks.

For Reference:

The 3rd from top clip is the standard position for a stock needle in a '98 WR400 (code OBDTM) and lowering the main jet to a #162 is 2 steps leaner than stock.

Make sure you are running the stock needle and not the '98 YZ400 needle (OBDVR), which would be closer to the middle clip position.

Thanks James. Are these codes on the needle itself? So the clip position is 3 from the top for stock? Mine is 3 from the bottom. So it sounds like I am in the right place with clip. Thanks again.

James I checked my needle and it has 7 slots for the clip, I thought they were only supposed to have 5. Everything I have seen only shows 5. Also the code on my carb. needle is OBDT, did not see an M. Any help on where to set the needle clip with a #168 main jet would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rick....

See ya on the trail.
