DRZ 400S does sprocket change need chain?

I was about to attempt a sprocket change from a 15 / 44 to a 14 /47 as recomended to add a further "dirt bike" range to my 400s. I was wondering if I can keep the stock chain?

...If there is no wear on the original sprocket. If the original sprocket shows visual signs of wear, you can bet that your chain is worn, and thus will cause premature wear to you new sprocket. But, yeah, the single front sprocket will be much cheaper than the whole drive system.
