Which JD main jet in TX on an '05 CRF450? 178 or 180?

Recommended Posts

I'm just sort of rebuilding my new bike to get it ready to ride and the instructions w/ the JD jet kit are not crystal clear on this for the '05.

Of course it is a bit cold and I have removed the backfire screen.

I was hoping to get a good starting point.

Which main jet should I use? What about the needle? Which one and where should I put the clip?

Thanks.

Try the #178 or #175 main jet. It seems the '05 is favoring a slightly smaller main and richer clip position, such as red #5 or #6.

Thanks,

James

James, the instructions w/ the JD jet kit say to use the blue needle one clip position leaner when the temps are below 65 degrees. Do you still recommend that or should I use the red needle?

Yes, for colder weather I would try the blue needle in the middle clip position, keeping the fuel screw near 1 1/2 turns. This richens 0-1/4 throttle compared to the red needle. Use clip #3 if the change is too much.

Thanks,

James
