problems starting 04 crf450

Recommended Posts

Im having problems starting the bike when it is cold. When I finally do get it started it pops and backfires alot, and I have to usually turn the idle up a bit. After riding a few laps the idle then seems too high and I have to turn it back down. Then everything seems to be fine, it starts on one or two kicks and runs fine with little or no backfiring the rest of the day. Any suggestions would be appriciated!

Also when I let it idle on the stand and crack the throttle it dies, only noticed it a couple of times while riding but not sure if that is normal or not.

Sounds too lean. Turn out your fuel screw or go up a size on the pilot.

Mine: JD kit 42 pilot 2 turns out on the fuel screw.
