Exhaust Gasket

Recommended Posts

Is it really necessary to replace the gasket between the header and muffler? All the other bikes I haven't even had a gasket there. I think it would seal just as good if I reused it and put some hight temp. silicon on it.

Speaking strictly of the gasket between the header and muffler, my experience says "no, if you haven't damaged the existing gasket". I've removed/replaced my muffler several (20+) times and even installed a new head pipe all without changing the muffler-to-header gasket. No detectable leaks to date.

Oops! My bad. I thought he meant the header to cylinder seal.

You can definately reuse the header to muffler gasker till it falls apart. If you're gentile with it they'll last forever.

I changed one on my 450 because it came with the gasket kit IIRC.

They are a bitch to get in, so only change it if you absolutely have to.
