some advice needed

Recommended Posts

yesterday just do my valve clearance, all a tad on the loose end

so tighten up alittle

at the same time, i remove the top cover to take a look at the cam, cam lobes seem to be "worn" can feel that it is not exactly smooth and the surface on both cam lobes and the rockers arms are shiny.

it is a 98 XR400, and i believe that it hasn't been changed before, same goes to the cam chain, piston.

so do ya guys receommend i change it?

Yea well it is a 98 model, so It would of done a bit of work.

I wouldnt recomend changing it now.

But if your planing to do some work on it in the future, like a big bore kit, Yes get a new Cam and a new cam chain.

But for now it will be fine.

Or you could give it a rebuild and replace everything, as well as the piston.

But is it lacking in power? Do you think it would be worn out?

The rockers are pretty shiny new, so unless you can see a grey stripe in the middle theyre fine. They grey is where the hardened layer has been worn away.
