Southern Indiana Spurgeon Riding area Closed by Indiana DNR

Recommended Posts

The Indiana Dept of Natural Resources (DNR) announced on their website the closure of the last riding area in Southern Indiana. Any suggestions? This is unbelievable. I suggest everyone writing the Indiana House of representatives to drive re-opening.

See the website below.

Please send an email to the DNR or state to request the re-opening.

 This was one of the last decent places to ride ( in Indiana ). For some reason, anytime the state of Indiana gets involved in ORV activities nothing good comes from it. I wonder if the STATE will give me a refund on my ORV permit since there is only one part-time ORV area to ride in the state ??

I am trying to get a group of people together to buy some land for riding. There is 1500 acres for sale just 2-3 miles north of Spurgeon. It would be great riding. It has open areas and very technical hill/ trail areas. It won't last long.

There once was an almost unlimited amount of perfect riding areas near Lynnville, Spurgeon etc. Most of the land was abandoned and ruined for any development by the coal mines. Now, all of sudden , this land is valuable to development and must be enviromentally protected. Go figure. No matter what the state and experts say , it seems to me that these areas work much better when they are left alone from government intervention.

Looks like the best first step is to attend the meeting on March 5th at 10am. It's a Saturday.

Anyone want to ride down with me?
