Blah valves

Recommended Posts

If loose valves are happy, my valves are just feeling OK. I finally got tired of worrying about them and went ahead and checked them. My bike has 5,200 mostly commuting miles. The left side IT and EX are confortable, maybe even content, at 0.005" and 0.010". The right side IT is 0.004" on the mark, and the EX is 0.008". I will abjust these in the near future.

For you cringing worrywarts out there I recommend just doing the check. It took me a careful slow moving 2 hours, I didn't have a manual (I just got the bike a few weeks ago) but it's not really necessary for a check. Remember to clean the area over and around the top end to keep dirt from falling in. Make sure you are at TDC (search this forum). Disconnet the interfering hoses, unbolt the horn, be careful to reattach everything including the sparkplug lead before putting the gastank back on.

My suggestion would be to check shims now... order what you need fro the right side intake and Exhaust.. And change them as soon as parts are available. As you have seen... the job is very easy,, there really is no good reason not to do it,,and do it right.
