Zip Ties on spokes?

Ive seen guys with zip ties on their spokes where they cross eachother. What does that do for the rim? Does it even have a purpose?

Its supposed to help reduce the vibration in the spokes and help reduce the deflection in hard impacts. This will help to keep them from braking as often.

Does it help them any from coming loose? cause the crf's are infamous for coming loose.

Both SCORE and BITD off road racing require that spokes be either zip tied or saftey wired.We raced the Baja 500 on a 250 and I don;t think we lost any ties.

They don't do anything for a wheel other than keeping a broken one from flopping around and tearing up other parts. Now a wire tied and soldered setup will add strength and rigidity to a wheel, but it's not really worth the time and effort and a mess when you got to replace a spoke. Zip ties don't do squat.
