Tough jetting question. Mismatch.

Recommended Posts

I have an old junker that i want to turn into a play bike. I had to get a new engine as the old one was completely ruined. The problem is the new engine is an 89 KX125 and the carb I'm using is off an 84 KX125. I think it's running lean right now due to the new pipe and K&N. Other than that though I'm not sure if the fuel/air mixture is even the same on these different models. If someone could help me out or even give me a suggestion it would be greatly appreciated. I'm not too educated when it comes to rejetting carbs so any advice at all would be useful. Thanks in advance.

Make sure the carburetor settings are not too lean. Use the bottom clip position on the needle (lifts needle up) to check if richer jetting (more fuel) is needed. If the bike sputters, it is running too rich and can be leaned back a step at a time.
