sprocket ratio

Recommended Posts

I have a yz450f with a pro-circuit pipe which helps out a lot with bottom end power, but when im riding in sand dunes i want the bike to go faster..so im thinking about going to a differant sprocket ratio..but im not sure which ratio would be best...i was thinking of going 46 in the rear and 17 in the front. Anyone out there ever play around with thier sprocket ratio's alot and know what kind of differance this, or any other type of ratio's besides stock would do as far as speed/torque?

Going to a 17/46 set-up would make the bike close to unridable unless you want a street bike.

You may want to consider going to a 15t front.

14/48 3.43:1 ratio (stock)

17/46 2.70:1 ratio

15/48 3.20:1 ratio

I have never seen a 17 tooth front. I doubt if you have clearance.

The easiest and cheapest way to experiment is to jump up a tooth on the front from what you are currently running and see what it feels like. You will be robbing most of that bottom end power away though.
