Deer Springs on Saturday

Recommended Posts

Two exits North of the 78, just North of Escondido. Nothing but perfectly groomed trails.

Do you have to work Saturday, or do you want to go to Ocotillo Wells? Remember to bring a winch with you to get your bike out of that ravine after you wedge it into place.

So is anyone still going? It looks like its going to be too wet for a full day at Ocotillo Wells, but a few hours out there might be good.

Would it be best at Ocotillo, or at Deer Springs?

I may still be up for it.

Its suppose to be raining pretty good most of the day. Between the long drive, and the nasty mud, I'm just not up for it. But the short drive to Deer Springs Road is a whole different story. I don't mind rolling in mud. I just don't like to drive for two hours home, covered in mud. So whos up for DSR?

If it comes down to just you and me I'll hit DSR with ya. If anyone else goes I will seriously just slow you guys down. So in that case I'd take a "rain check"(pun intended). I'll be up and moving late morning if ya need me....you have my number.

That was fun. I couldn't have been any wetter if I had just rolled in the puddles. Next time we should have more people.

How was it? Were you guys able to ride everywhere? It was raining pretty hard up here at times. Hows the ravine?

Who's up for a ride on Wednesday or Thursday?

      Hey all,
I'm looking at buying a 2004 Suzuki DRZ400EK or at least I think it's an EK according to Vin lookup websites, but it does not appear to have a kickstarter. I was told the bike was owned by a motorcycle dealer and that it has a current green sticker, and a California license plate but has not been registered for the streets since 2011. I want this as a dual sport but am not clear if the fact that it already has a plate means I am good to register it or if maybe they took away the ability to register it after it was plated, California loves to do that kind of stuff. Since the bike was owned by a dealer I would think they were up on the latest regulations in California, but who knows. Can anyone add any insight as to what I should look for on the bike itself like the carburetor, model numbers etc? Or do I just try my luck at the DMV?

I am new to riding in the desert and the tiny gravel called sand around here. I run Dunlop AT-81's back home because they work well in a variety of conditions and don't climb mud ruts. The one thing I don't like is that with the narrower tread profile on the AT-81 it doesn't grip as well in hard leaning turns- since the tread doesn't wrap around the carcass as far as say, an MX-52 for example. This makes me wonder if I might "skate" less on the BLM trails if I ran a different tire. What tires are popular out here and why?

Both of my sons have taken this class and I cannot say enough great things about it and the instructors. They really give the kids the tools and techniques to be successful and confident.
