Aprilia 450 V-Twin Should Enter Production Next Year

By Dirck Edge

Aprilia has already been racing its 450cc v-twin supermoto. Expect this bike, along with a street legal version, to enter production for the 2006 model year.

This is a bike with close to 70 horsepower (on par with a Suzuki SV650) that weighs less than 300 pounds. It should be great fun to ride.

To be honest - the Aprilia is nothing like an SV 650, not even close. The Aprilia is based off a motocross and off-road design, not a streetbike. The only similarity to the SV650 is the fact they both have two cylinders and brakes.

The Aprilia 450 twin weights in less than 250lbs dry.

For complete details, there will be a full test in the next issue of SuperMoto Racer magazine. SMR sent Darrick Lucchesi to Italy to ride and do a report on the bike. Subscribers should see their issue in the mail by the end of the month depending on what part of the country you live in.

to be honest I think....he wasn't saying that it handled anything like the SV...he was saying it was tuned to have as much power as an SV and yet in a lighter overall package which in this particular format with that amount of power and that much of a weight reduction paired with the handling dynamics and ergonomics of a Supermoto/dirttrack/dirtbike racer.....it will be a fun ride....moreso than that of an SV....which in of itself is a fun riding machine to snipe 4 cylinder sportbikes on the twisties with.....maybe this will be even moreso!......I could be wrong....but think that is what he(hondahawkrider) was trying to say!
