Honda NX 125 ? Huhbuh ?

Recommended Posts

Back in the 80s Honda "streetified" the XRs to a degree, calling them the NX series. I don't remember the 125 but I remember the NX250 & the NX600 (or 650). I believe the suspension was reduced a bit, and the front fender was moved down to the front wheel for a more street/urban appearance.

Yep, we got the NX650 over here. It was called an NX650 Dominator. I always thought the smaller versions (125/250's) were Japan only models, but looks like one at least made it to the 'States.

The 250 motor is pretty interesting with the liquid cooling, six speed tranny and e-start. I know of a guy who has one in a mid/late 80's CR125 frame. He basically built a (liquid cooled) CRF230 before Honda did. When he got it done, Honda came out with the 230 and he bought one and never put more than a few miles on his hybrid machine.

Yup... In fact the whole line of 650L's used the Domi engine, including this years model. Not a lot of HP but it pulls like a truck.

I remember those... I wanted one soo bad when I graduated (the NX650, not the 125 or 250) I was going off to boot camp and thought that would be the perfect "enlisted mans vehicle". being 17 I couldnt get a loan and the 'rents had been of the attitude, "you want it get it yourself" pretty much since I was 10. I never did get one. I still catch myself on occasion looking for and unmolested NX 650. ?

the NX line was way ahead of its time (in the USA) basically a street-motard. they are not XLs or XRs, frame geometry is completely unique.

Im looking for a 250 myself incase anyone knows of one available.

back in the day when they were new we thought they were gay, they still look gay but that 250 engine is sweet and would be the perfect candidate to put in a CRF frame for reliability (dualsport)

I think the NX250 is the only Twin-cam 250 thumper Honda has produced.

We just picked up an 88 Honda NX125 (baby Transalp--see below--I hope) for my wife. Nearly bone stock and real good shape. It is fully street legal and capable enough off road. Real fun to putt around town and in the pits. But the thing is a royal slug. An XR100 would run circles around it. It still has some smog stuff on it and the stock exhaust. I'm know I will have to get creative if I want to improve the exhaust as the subframe goes real far back. I am more curious about the intake and fuel side of it. Has anyone out there breathed life into these?

Thanks in advance.
