Recommended Posts

How many miles can you get on your CRF 450R Gas Tank. Im getting ready to do a loop and not sure if mine is going to hold up.

it will vary on your riding style. I tend to ride the lower to mid RPM's and have gone around 40 miles with a little left in the tank.

I have gotten as much as 42 mpg at high altitude, jetted leaner, with a very leisurely pace. I have gotten 35 mpg many times going a little faster. I have ridden a 60 mile loop with plenty of gas left. My CR250 got 22 mpg on the same loop.

With a stock '03 motor, PMB silencer, stock jetting, and on moderate trails in Idaho's Central mountains between 6000 and 9000 feet, we got 65 miles out of a stock tank. Another time, we got 70 miles just outside of Sun Valley. It's a fuel efficient motor for certain! :)

I was getting 34mpg in Colorado mountains. And I was carefully measuring the gas when I refilled.......didn't just eyeball it and guess.

Still I will carry a quart extra in pack sometimes.

I think real race pace riding (heavy on gas or brakes...nothing in between) will cut mileage down tremendously.

We went approx 35 miles on 1.5 gals, some tight riding, some wide open riding.

We did a local 6 hour cross-country race last year...

'04 CRF450, standard apart from JD jet kit

2 riders, 40 minutes a lap

WFO trails and farmland mixed about 50/50 with some tight trees

measured the exact amount of gas used for the race

= 31.6 mpg :)

'90 Toyota Hilux ute (2.4L petrol)

620 mile round trip to get there and back

carrying 2 guys, 2 bikes and gear

= 22.4 mpg :)

On my 05 with 14/48 gearing in Baja we would do 60 miles at a very fast pace with a Dr D pipe, stock engine. We felt safe with a little bit of cushion. :):)

Hey have any of you guys thought about a reserve type fuel tap/petcock?

Like can one be fitted to the CRF? Evidently the 250 has a reserve system.

Thanks

Yes, I installed a 250x petcock and tank fitting(???) to my IMS tank. It all bolts up perfect, except I had to shim up the front of the tank with a couple of washers tom keep the tank fitting(it's longer than stock cuz it has two hoses coming off it) from hitting the valve cover.

This may not be an issue with the smaller stock tank.

And, no I haven't measured the res. capacity yet :)
