New Cylinder case with an electric start

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 Yzf 250, I can handle the power, but I have a hard time kicking it over. I was wondering if someone knows if I could change the cylinder case to an 03' model and add an elctric start to it. Does anyone know if this idea is at all possible and how much would this mod run me?

It is possible, but not practical. Your cheapest way to get e-start would be to sell your bike and get a WR. Then you will gain weight and loose power, so that isn't the best choice. The only way to get it on your bike would be to have a GOOD mechanic like Eric Gorr wire and set it up. I'm not even sure that these guys do it, but it's worth a call. I know that the aftermarket doesn't have a kit. I think you will have to do with kicking for a while or until you have the money for a WR. :)

cody -- have you considered spending $US115 and getting an '03 (or later) YZF auto-decompression cam? it will drastically simplify starting your bike; no more "find TDC and kick" drill. just kick it like a two stroke and you're off. installation of the '03 cam takes less than an hour and you can do it yourself with no specialized tools required. basically, you just need to follow the same steps as checking your valve clearances.
